1 April 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts a large cyclonic eddy around the Northeast corner of the 3º x 3º box, and an anticyclonically rotating feature to the Southeast corner; together these features are predicted to cause a strong Eastward flow in the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374. 11374 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11374 is inside the 3º x 3º box on the Eastern side!

Commands chosen: 11375 and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11374 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11374 and 11399 are using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC.

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts a strong Eastward flow in the 3º x 3º box from the anticyclonic eddy moving slightly Westward.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375 and 11376. 11375 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11376 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 has just exited the 3º x 3º box on the Western boundary; it seems that 11376 is near a saddle point in the flow generated by two cyclonic and small eddies.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11375 changed from deep to shallow dive commands, and 11376 and 11399 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11399 is using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 13:00 and 14:00 UTC.

30 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast still predicts a Westward shift of the anticyclonic eddy at the Eastern edge of the 3º x 3º box; it also seems to maybe have more than one axis of rotation (i.e., there are smaller spin off eddies that are still pretty close to it).

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 4 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 is South and bit West of the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11375 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, all floats chose the same dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11375 is using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 13:00 and 14:00 UTC.

Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11375 is using shallow dive commands instead of deep, and 11406 is using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC.

11 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts relatively mild SLA values, and predicts one cyclonic eddy and another low SLA region; everything else is predicted to have a higher SLA value.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375, 11399, and 11406. 11375 posted a good dive start and a bad dive end GPS ping. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. FloatCast perceives 11375 as being far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11399 is just North of the 9º x 9º domain. 11406 is Southwest of the 3º x 3º box, and appears to be changing course away from the box.

Commands chosen: 11375 and 11399 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11399 changed from deep to shallow dive commands, and 11406 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11374 and 11376 are using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC.

10 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts a mostly stagnant vector field over the prediction window; there is some mild de-intensification.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 13:00 and 14:00 UTC.

9 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts a diagonal current from the Northeast going Southwest through the upper part of the 3º x 3º box, and it predicts a current from the South going Northeast through the lower part of the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374 and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 5 good beacon GPS pings. 11376 posted a good dive start, a bad dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11374 appears to have drifted Westward, closer to the 3º x 3º domain; but it appears that this might be slightly against the expected surface flow direction. 11376 appears to be drifting out of the 3º x 3º box, but the last batch of posted data was not accepted so FloatCast does not perceive this.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11376 and 11399 changed from shallow to deep dive commands, and 11406 changed from deep to shallow dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11399 is using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC.

8 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts very gradual changes to the SLA.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous round.

Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11374 and 11376 changed from deep to shallow dive commands, and 11406 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11374 is using shallow dive commands instead of deep.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 15:00 and 16:00 UTC.

7 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts several seemingly weaker distinct eddies at the upper half to upper third of the 9º x 9º domain.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375, 11399, and 11406. 11375 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11399 has drifted to the North of the 9º x 9º domain. 11406 is just Southwest of the 3º x 3º box, and appears to be drifting toward it.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 and 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11399 changed from deep to shallow dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11406 is using shallow dive commands instead of deep.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 18:00 and 19:00 UTC.

6 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts nearly 6 distinct eddies at the upper half to upper third of the 9º x 9º domain.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous round.

Commands chosen: 11375, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376 and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11374 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11399 is using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between about 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

5 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts generally weaker currents inside the 3º x 3º box, with mutliple eddies surrounding it.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374 and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11376 posted posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11374 is East of the 3º x 3º box, but there does not seem to be a predicted current that can take it into the box. 11376 is inside the 3º x 3º box! 11376 is on the Western edge of the 3º x 3º box, and appears to be predicted to be in weaker currents which might make it easier to stay there. 11376 has surfaced inside the box 4 times, and it barely moved compared to the surfacing point previous to this current surfacing point.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11399 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11399 is using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

4 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". The 4-5 eddies forecasted yesterday are expected to be there still, but are seemingly predicted to mostly weaken in intensity. There is an eddy (anticyclonic) East of the 3º x 3º box that may be intensifying.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375. 11375 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and a good beacon GPS ping. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11374 and 11375 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

3 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts a third eddy (anticyclonic) that is South of the Northwestern cyclonic eddy. The Northern anticyclonic eddy is still persisting in the predictions. There are thus 3 eddies that are close to each other in the Northern parts of the 9º x 9º domain.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11399 and 11406. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 4 good beacon GPS pings. 11399 is North of the 3º x 3º box, and appears to be drifting Northward out of the 9º x 9º domain. 11406 is Southwest of the 3º x 3º domain, and appears to be drifting slightly to the East.

Commands chosen: 11399 and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, and 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11375 changed from shallow to deep dive commands, and 11399 changed from deep to shallow dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11374 and 11375 are using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

2 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". The double gyre is still predicted to occur at the Northern part of the 9º x 9º domain; the flow prediction is largely unchanging over the prediction window.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous round.

Commands chosen: 11375 and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11374 changed from shallow to deep dive commands, and 11375 changed from deep to shallow dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11374 is using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

Clarification to yesterday (3.1.2026): For yesterday, 11374 and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11375, 11376, and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Reason for clarification: ambiguous note.

Clarification to two days ago (2.28.2026): For two days ago, compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11374 and 11399 used shallow dive commands instead of deep. Reason for clarification: typo.

1 March 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". The double gyre described yesterday is still predicted to occur at the Northern part of the 9º x 9º domain; FloatCast predicts generally low SLA in the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374 and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11376 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11374 is East of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be drifting Westward. 11376 is right on the Western edge of the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11374 and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, and 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11375 and 11399 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11375 is using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 19:00 and 20:00 UTC.

28 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode". FloatCast predicts a near perfect double gyre type of system in the Norther part of the 9º x 9º domain; the left gyre is cyclonic and the right is anticyclonic. 11399 is directly in the middle of it; it seems that the choice of shallow dive commands is almost certainly the wrong choice.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375. 11375 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11374 and 11399 changed from deep to shallow dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11374 and 111399 are using shallow dive commands instead of deep.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 16:00 and 17:00 UTC.

27 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode"; there are 100 Monte Carlo trials for each float trajectory prediction where the dive end points are perturbed using a normal distribution with a standard deviation of 10 km/day. FloatCast predicts a meandering current to go surround and go through the 3º x 3º box with several small eddies near it.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11399 and 11406. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11399 is North of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be drifting Northward. 11406 is Southwest of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be drifting Southeast.

Commands chosen: 11375 and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Compared to the last batch of posted commands, 11374 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. Compared to the reference deterministic-optimized run of FloatCast, 11374 is actually using deep dive commands instead of shallow.

Timing: All 3 runs of FloatCast (deterministic-fixed dive commands, deterministic-optimized dive commands, and stochastic-optimized dive commands) posted new outputs between 15:00 and 16:00 UTC.

26 February 2026 -- Round 2

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast has now been switched into "stochastic prediction mode".

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous round.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

24 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a general decrease in SLA; there are some small eddies surrounding the 3º x 3º box, and FloatCast also predicts that a small and perhaps weak cyclonic eddy in the center of the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375, 11399, and 11406. 11375 posted a good dive start, a bad dive end, and 2 bad beacon GPS ping. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11399 is North of the 3º x 3º box, and appears to be drifting Northward. 11406 is West and a bit South of the 3º x 3º box, and appears to be drifting Southeast.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

23 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a broad swell in SLA in the area surrounding the 3º x 3º box, mostly to the West, Southwest, South, Southeast, and East of the box.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

22 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. A dominant feature similar to the "two intersecting diagonal lines" feature predicted yesterday is predicted again today by FloatCast. There is also a reasonably strong cyclonic eddy in the Northwest corner of the 9º x 9º domain that is expected to start dissipating.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11406 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 18:00 and 19:00 UTC.

21 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts two intersecting diagonal lines of high SLA that kind of surround the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11375, and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start, a bad dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11375 posted a good dive start, a bad dive end, and a good beacon GPS ping. 11376 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11374 is perceived as being East of the 3º x 3º box and looks to have been drifting Northwest at a slow pace. 11375 is perceived as being far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is now inside the 3º x 3º box! Hopefully 11376 stays for a long time. 11399 is North of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be poised to continue drifting Northward out of the 9º x 9º domain. 11406 is Southwest of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be drifting Southeast.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11376 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11399 and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11406 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 18:00 and 20:00 UTC.

20 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a gradual change in ocean surface currents.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11399 and 11406. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11399 moved a great distance Northward; 11399 started its last dive on 2.16.2026 around 01:16 UTC, but there were shallow commands chosen by FloatCast for 11399 from 2.15.2026 at around 16:05 UTC; this is a case where the lead method of float trajectory prediction was not able to react quickly enough to update the command to something better. 11406 moved Southwestward, and finally moved away from the Western edge of the 9º x 9º domain; 11406 appears to finally be following surface currents directly, after some time where it had not been doing so.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts an intensification of SLA in the Southern region of the 9º x 9º domain.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11406 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

18 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a gradual intensification of SLA. It also predicts a bit of a meandering current running Northeast and intersecting the lower right corner of the box. There is also a meandering current predicted running Southeast, going through the upper left corner of the 3º x 3º box, and going directly into the Northeast running current. FloatCast predicts that the Northeastern current is "stronger" because the Southeastern current appears to mostly deflect into it.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374. 11374 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11374 is East of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be moving closer to it, but slowly.

Commands chosen: 11374 and 11375 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11406 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

17 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a gradual intensification of SLA in the lower two thirds of the 9º x 9º domain.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375 and 11376. 11375 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and a good beacon GPS ping. 11376 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11375 is continuing to drift farther to the East, and is well East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is very close to the 3º x 3º box, and moved slightly closer to it on the last dive.

16 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a gradual change in the surface flow to the West of the 3º x 3º box, but is mostly stagnant. Per 2.14.2026 note below in "Status of floats", it appears that item (4) is what is happening to float 11399 ("the float moves North and is steered further off course and leaves the 9º x 9º domain").

Status of floats: New float data added for 11399 and 11406. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11399 appears to have been caught in the cyclonic rotation of an eddy and was taken Northward away from the 3º x 3º box. 11406 stayed in mostly the same spot, which is far West of the 3º x 3º box, but still in the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 and 11399 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 and 11399 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

15 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. Flow forecast today predicts a slight Westward shift of features.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). No floats chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 and 11376 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 15:00 and 17:00 UTC.

14 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. Interesting shape to FloatCast flow predictions for today; the currents that were thin and meandering seem to somehow be spreading out to make more circular features. (And 11374 has not expired.) Fortunately, it appears that no floats surfaced in the time yesterday when the website was down -- but it was pretty close. The last beacon GPS ping from 11374 is dated to 20:00 UTC, and the notes from yesterday identify the problematic window as being from "~ 21:30 ( * ) to 22:50 UTC ( * The start of when it went down is unknown, but it should not have been before 21:30 UTC)."

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374. 11374 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11374 is East of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be close to a flow that will take it East out of the 9º x 9º domain. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is just barely West of the 3º x 3º box, but there does not seem to be a current coming that can push it in the box. 11399 is just North of the 3º x 3º box, but appears to be coming up to a critical point in the flow where there are potentially 4 things that could happen: (1) the float is carried directly into the 3º x 3º box from the North in the central area at about 130.5ºE; (2) the float continues moving due East and misses the 3º x 3º box; (3) the float curls back and follows the cyclonic rotation of the eddy it appears to be in; or (4) the float moves North and is steered further off course and leaves the 9º x 9º domain. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box; the nearby surface current predictions may mean that the float is steered back further in the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 and 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 15:00 and 17:00 UTC.

13 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. 11374 may have expired. FloatCast predicts another gradual change in surface currents in the forecast window with a lot of meandering contours.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375, 11376, and 11399. 11375 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11376 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is just West of the 3º x 3º box and appears to have essentially done station keeping since the last data update. 11399 is just North of the 3º x 3º box, and made a big move to come closer to the box with its last dive; according to the surface currents, it is right on track to come into the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

Addendum: Later this day, there was a website glitch that meant this website was down from ~ 21:30 ( * ) to 22:50 UTC ( * The start of when it went down is unknown, but it should not have been before 21:30 UTC). After this, the Fixed-Command runs (first run of FloatCast each day) of FloatCast up to 2.11.2026 were removed from this website; they are backed up elsewhere.

12 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. 11406 appears to have possibly just slid West out of the ESN prediction domain, which may have caused it to choose shallow dive commands by default; however, there is a Southeastward flow in this area that it might be able to take advantage of. FloatCast predicts a gradual intensification of SLA, and little changes to the current directions and shapes (broadly speaking).

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 4 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box, and is almost out of the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 and 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11406 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

11 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast flow prediction for today has very little changes in currents over the prediction window.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11375 and 11399 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

10 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a meandering current at the West side of the 3º x 3º box that has some intricate but strong flows.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11375, and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start, a bad dive end, a bad beacon, and a good beacon GPS ping. 11375 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11376 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11375 is outside the 9º x 9º domain to the East. 11376 moved slightly closer to the Western edge of the 3º x 3º box, but is expected to now drift Northwest.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11399 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11406 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

9 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a huge swell in SLA across the entire 9º x 9º domain -- especially in the Southwest corner.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11399. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and two good beacon GPS pings. 11399 traveled very far East and slightly South so that it is now much closer to the top left corner of the 3º x 3º domain.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

8 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts an intensification of the Southwestern anticyclonic rotating feature that might allow floats West of the 3º x 3º box to take advantage of it to be pushed into the box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and a good beacon GPS ping. Despite persistent Eastward flow, 11406 continues to move Southward, and a bit West.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). No floats chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 17:00 and 19:00 UTC.

7 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts some pretty dramatic current contours to the West of the 3º x 3º box.

No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 17:00 and 18:00 UTC.

6 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a meandering current that runs right through the 3º x 3º box from the Northwest to the Southeast in a way that may help many floats; it seems to originate from the boundaries of cyclonic and anticyclonic rotational features.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11375, and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11375 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11376 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and two good beacon GPS pings. 11374 is East of the 3º x 3º box; the choice of 11374 to use the shallow dive seems risky because the flow it is using may eventually take it out of the 9º x 9º domain. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º box, and it appears that it just drifted further East. 11376 is just West of the 3º x 3º box; it had been using the deep dive command, which was perhaps overly cautious because it is right on track to go into the 3º x 3º box -- more so if it had been using the shallow dive command. 11399 has just re-entered the 9º x 9º domain from the Northwest. 11406 is to the West of the 3º x 3º box and is predicted to move East. 11375 is outside the 9º x 9º domain. No floats are in the 3º x 3º box, but 11376 is very close.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). No floats chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 and 11376 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

5 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts several rotational-like features surrounding the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11399. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11374 is predicted to travel Northward, but it appears it could easily be pushed East out of the 9º x 9º domain by the currents. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is West of the 3º x 3º box, but appears to be creeping closer and closer to it; 11376 is predicted to be caught at the intersection of two flow features and so be motionless. 11399 is now back inside the 9º x 9º domain and appears to be on track to go straight toward the 3º x 3º box; it is Northwest of the 3º x 3º box. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box and is predicted to move East, even though it has been moving predominantly South recently.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 and 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

4 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. 11406 has still been moving predominantly South even though the predictions have mostly anticipated it moving Eastward. FloatCast predicts an anticyclonic eddy in the Southeastern corner of the 9º x 9º domain.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406. 11406 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

3 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts the anticyclonic eddy in the Southwestern corner of the 9º x 9º domain will intensify.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

2 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts an overall de-intensification of SLA (i.e., it is predicted to be closer to 0 meters in many places).

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11375 and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11375 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and a good beacon GPS ping. 11376 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and a good beacon GPS ping. 11374 has not moved much and is still East of the 3º x 3º box, but does not appear to be drifting further Eastward. 11375 is still far east of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is just West of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be drifting Eastward (though the flow is predicted to shift, which is probably why it chose deep dive commands today). 11399 is just West of the 9º x 9º domain. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box, and is drifting Southwestward even though the surface flow appears to be predominantly Eastward. No floats are in the 3º x 3º box, and 11375 and 11399 are outside the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 and 11376 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

1 February 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. A technical issue meant that the results from the first run of FloatCast were not published right away; they were published in the second run (which means the .json files technically have the wrong time stamp for the first batch). In the future, data from the first run may be removed from the home page. FloatCast predicts growth in size of the cyclonic eddy at the Eastern edge of the 3º x 3º box; anticyclonically rotating features are expected to diminish.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11399 and 11406. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, 2 good beacon GPS pings, then a good dive start and good dive end, followed by 4 good beacon GPS pings (the second set of dive start and dive ends were for a rapid ~1-hr dive). 11406 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11399 is just West of the 9º x 9º domain, and may re-enter the domain soon. 11406 continues to drift Southwest even though the surface flow has been consistently Eastward.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs around 19:04 UTC.

31 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a gradual intensification of SLA, but no major movement in oceanographic features and/or change in flow directions.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 16:00 and 17:00 UTC.

30 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. Problem in uploading commands to this website today was resolved. Removed data from time prior to FloatCast control from the fixed-dive command runs of FloatCast today (now both website logs start on 27 November 2025, and continue through today). FloatCast predicts a small cyclonic eddy will form West of the 3º x 3º box, and it appears that floats 11376 and 11406 are poised to take advantage of it; however, the subsurface flow may not match the surface flow.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374. 11374 posted a good dive start, a bad dive end, and a bad beacon GPS ping.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 16:00 and 18:00 UTC.

29 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375, 11376, and 11399. 11375 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11376 posted a good dive start, a bad dive end, and 4 good beacon GPS pings. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11374 is still perceived as being East of the 3º x 3º box. 11375 is still far East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 appears to be very close to its previous dive end point (based on the last batch of data that was not accepted by FloatCast), and is just West of the 3º x 3º box. 11399 is still far West of the 9º x 9º domain. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box, is close to the edge of the 9º x 9º box, and appears to be drifting predominantly Southward. No floats are inside the 3º x 3º box. 11374, 11376, and 11406 are the only floats perceived as being inside the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11375 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

28 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. It appears that 11406 is moving Southward, whereas the surface flow is mostly directed Eastward; perhaps this indicates a persisting subsurface flow feature. FloatCast predicts some meandering current patterns inside the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and two good beacon GPS pings.

Commands chosen: 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 and 11375 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

27 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a small anticyclonic eddy spinning off of the main anticyclonic eddy near the Southwestern corner of the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

26 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a slight Westward shift of eddies present.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374 and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and two good beacon GPS pings. 11376 posted a good dive start and a good dive end. 11374 did not move much from its last dive. 11376 moved slightly North, but had expected it to move closer to the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 and 11375 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11375 changed from shallow to deep dive commands. 11376 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

25 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts that the anticyclonic eddy in the Southwestern corner of the 3º x 3º box will have a smaller anticyclonic eddy break off and move Northward before the remaining part at the Southwest corner of the 3º x 3º box dissipates; it also predicts an intensification of the two cyclonic eddies (one is to the North and one is to the East of the 3º x 3º box).

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375 and 11399. 11375 posted a good dive start, a bad dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11375 is far East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11399 is far West of the 9º x 9º domain. No floats are inside the 3º x 3º box, but 11376 is relatively close.

24 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts that anticyclonic eddy at the Southwest corner of the 3º x 3º box will intensify greatly.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and then two good beacon GPS pings. 11406 is drifting Southwestward and may leave the 9º x 9º domain soon; it is West of the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 18:00 and 19:00 UTC.

23 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. FloatCast predicts a prevailing Southward flow inside the 3º x 3º box; it also predicts some seemingly weak rotational flows.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

22 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. All 5 remaining floats are active. 11399 is expected to expire soon. The ESN forecasts that the anticyclonic eddy in the Southwest corner of the 3º x 3º box is dissipating. There is a small cyclonic eddy predicted to its West.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11375, and 11376. 11374 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11375 retroactively posted a dive start before the last previous dive end GPS ping, then it posted a bad dive start and a bad dive end GPS ping. 11376 retroactively posted a bad dive start before the last previous dive end GPS ping, then it posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11374 is East of the 3º x 3º box and is moving Northward. 11375 is East of the 9º x 9º domain and appears to be moving West. 11376 came back from being outside the 9º x 9º box and is now just West of the 3º x 3º box. 11399 is far West of the 9º x 9º domain and is moving East. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box and is moving further Southwest. There is a small cyclonic eddy predicted to the West of the original Southwestern anticyclonic eddy (the anticyclonic eddy appears to be dissipating) that 11376 and 11406 might be able to take advantage of.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

21 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. Expecting 11374, 11375, and 11376 to post new data tomorrow (1.22.2026).

Status of floats: New float data added for 11399. 11399 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping; 11399 is still West of the 9º x 9º domain.

20 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. Because FloatCast did not have a complete accepted set of data for 11376 within the last 30 days, it perceived it as being expired. However, it may be that 11376 is still active. Therefore, the time window was increased from the last 30 to last 45 days that a float must have posted data. 11376 is expected to post data in the next 48 hours; if it does not, then it has expired.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and three good beacon GPS pings. 11374 appears to be on track to be pushed outside of the 9º x 9º domain. 11375 is tracked as being East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 and 11399 are tracked as being West of the 9º x 9º domain, though it is expected that 11376 is actually quite close to the 3º x 3º box (this is expected to be visible if it pushes another good set of GPS ping data). 11406 may be on track for some movement directly toward the box.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 15:00 and 17:00 UTC.

19 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 15:00 and 16:00 UTC.

18 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. All 5 of the remaining floats are in fact active.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11375, 11376, and 11399. 11374 posted a good dive start and a good dive end GPS ping. 11375 posted a good dive end GPS ping, but this data point was not accepted by FloatCast. 11376 posted a good dive end GPS ping, but this data point was not accepted by FloatCast. 11399 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and a good beacon GPS ping. The only floats perceived by FloatCast as being inside the 9º x 9º domain are 11374 and 11406. It appears that 11374 is trapped in a current that may push it out of the 9º x 9º domain; it is East and South of the 3º x 3º box. 11406 appears to be on track to flow directly into the Western edge of the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 19:00 and 20:00 UTC.

17 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. Expect that the only floats influencing the optimization results are 11399 and 11406. There is a reasonably strong cyclonic eddy that has formed in the North to Northwestern region of the 9º x 9º domain; the ESN predicts that an anticyclonic eddy will form next to it.

No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 16:00 and 17:00 UTC.

16 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. 11374, 11375, 11376, and 11399 will either surface in the next couple of days, or will be expected to have expired. 11406 is still active.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and a good beacon GPS ping (the beacon is dated to 1.16.2026 shortly after midnight UTC); it appears to be on track to be pulled back toward the 3º x 3º box by the currents surrounding the anticyclonic eddy.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). No floats chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

15 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. See notes on float status below. Perhaps some floats are still working; 11406 in particular seems to be functioning properly and would expect a call-in tomorrow. Again, it seems that only the new dive data for 11399 and 11406 have been accepted by FloatCast, likely because the bad beacon pings of 11374, 11375, and 11376 triggered data flagging. There may have been mention of a data backup as a result of the bug that has recently prevented normal float operations; perhaps data processing is time consuming, which would explain why the data downloaded yesterday (1.14.2026) stopped prematurely at about 1.9.2026 before more was posted for today. The migrating anticyclonic eddy that started in the Southeastern corner of the 9º x 9º domain is now almost precisely centered on the bottom left corner of the 3º x 3º box. This may be helpful to float 11406. Would need to investigate further, but it appears that all of the mapping error scores are very similar, and it could be because 11406 is the only float that has surfacing times in the mapping error computation time range; 11399 might contribute one surfacing time, but it is far outside of the domain so would expect the contribution to minimal.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, 11406. 11374 posted 7 bad beacon pings (lines 1193-1199 in the data file) and then posted a few hundred good beacon pings (lines 2151-2666 in the data file); the last one is dated to 1.14.2026. 11375 posted 2 bad beacon pings (lines 1143-1144 in the data file) and then posted a few hundred good beacon pings (lines 2233-2792 in the data file); the last one is dated to 1.14.2026. 11376 posted 27 bad beacon pings (lines 1363-1389 in the data file) and then posted a few hundred good beacon pings (lines 2130-2562 in the data file); the last one is dated to 1.14.2026. 11399 posted a few hundred good beacon pings (lines 2282-2899 in the data file); the last one is dated to 1.14.2026. 11406 posted a good dive start and a good dive end; the dive end is dated to 1.12.2026. FloatCast does not perceive any floats as being inside the 3º x 3º box. 11375, 11376, and 11399 are perceived by FloatCast as being outside the 9º x 9º domain (but 11376 may be back inside, see comment below). 11374 is perceived as being just east of the 3º x 3º box, but its last actual location data is for being east and south of the 3º x 3º box (but still in the 9º x 9º domain) and may be drifting away. 11375 is perceived as being very far east of the 9º x 9º domain, though its last actual location data is for being closer to the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is perceived as being just west of the 9º x 9º domain, but its last actual location data has it being inside the 9º x 9º domain, and potentially on track for moving into the 3º x 3º box. 11399 is perceived as being very far west of the 9º x 9º domain. 11406 is perceived as being due west of the 3º x 3º box, and may be drifting toward the box.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, and 11406 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). No floats chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11406 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

14 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. See notes on float status below. Expect that all floats have now expired, but will know for sure in the coming days. It seems that only the new dive data for 11399 and 11406 have been accepted by FloatCast, likely because the bad beacon pings of 11374, 11375, and 11376 triggered data flagging. The migrating anticyclonic eddy that started in the Southeastern corner of the 9º x 9º domain is now almost precisely centered on the bottom left corner of the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, 11406. 11374 posted a good dive start and a good dive end, followed by nearly 1000 beacon pings; the vast majority of the beacon pings were good, and the last one is dated to 1.9.2026. 11375 posted a good dive start and a good dive end, followed by around 1000 beacon pings; the vast majority of the beacon pings were good, and the last one is dated to 1.9.2026. 11376 posted a good dive start and a good dive end, followed by nearly 1000 beacon pings; the vast majority of the beacon pings were good, and the last one is dated to 1.9.2026. 11399 posted a good dive start and a good dive end, followed by over 1000 good beacon pings; the last beacon ping is dated to 1.9.2026. 11406 posted two good BISTDives dated to 12.31.2025, a good diagnostic dive, a good dive start and a good dive end, followed by two good beacons, a good dive start and a good dive end, and lastly another good dive start and good dive end; the last dive end is dated to 1.8.2026. FloatCast does not perceive any floats as being inside the 3º x 3º box. 11375, 11376, and 11399 are perceived by FloatCast as being outside the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, and 11399 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

13 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. No new float data, again. Suspect that the bug encountered on 11.14.2025 where float data stopped publishing may have occurred again. Another possibility is that all 5 floats remaining have expired. FloatCast might be run a second time today if new data becomes available. The large anticyclonic eddy that was in the Southeast corner of the domain has now shifted to the Southwest corner.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, and 11399 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374 and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11399 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 15:00 and 16:00 UTC.

12 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. No new float data, again. Suspect that the bug encountered on 11.14.2025 where float data stopped publishing may have occurred again. Another possibility is that all 5 floats remaining have expired. FloatCast might be run a second time today if new data becomes available. No major feature changes to the flow forecast, but there were some intriguing differences.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11375 and 11376 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11375 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

11 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. No new float data, again. Suspect that the bug encountered on 11.14.2025 where float data stopped publishing may have occurred again. Another possibility is that all 5 floats remaining have expired. FloatCast might be run a second time today if new data becomes available. The flow forecast still predicts the large anticyclonic eddy to be in the Southern part of the 3º x 3º box. There is an interesting cyclonically rotating feature predicted to the right of the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11376 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 17:00 and 18:00 UTC.

10 January 2026

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

9 January 2026

Notes: 11405 was removed from the optimization today. 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397, 11405 and 11408 are not in the optimization. No new float data, again. Suspect that the bug encountered on 11.14.2025 where float data stopped publishing may have occurred again. Another possibility is that all 5 floats remaining have expired. FloatCast might be run a second time today if new data becomes available.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11376 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters).

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

8 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397 and 11408 are not in the optimization. No new float data, again. Suspect that the bug encountered on 11.14.2025 where float data stopped publishing may have occurred again. Another possibility is that all 5 floats remaining have expired. FloatCast might be run a second time today if new data becomes available. Similar comment as yesterday about the changes/expected changes in the ocean flow.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11376, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed from shallow to deep dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

7 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. The Southeastern anticyclonic eddy has moved Westward to be at the bottom of the 3º x 3º box. In its wake a larger cyclonic eddy to the North is expected to form.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status of floats in FloatCast is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11376, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed from deep to shallow dive commands.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

6 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. The ESN forecast showed gradually increasing of SLA across most of the domain.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11376, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

4 January 2026

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11397 and 11408 are not in the optimization. No new float data, again. Suspect that the bug encountered on 11.14.2025 where float data stopped publishing may have occurred again. Another possibility is that all 5 floats remaining have expired.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11376, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

22 December 2025

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. Interesting phenomena occurring in ESN surface flow forecast where the large, persistent, anticyclonic eddy in the Southeastern corner of the 9º x 9º domain was predicted today to deform into a new shape that might no longer be an eddy; it is like there is a branch-off line of high SLA that is attached to it (connected from the West toward the East).

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11376, 11397, 11405, and 11408 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change from previous day.

19 December 2025

Notes: 11397, 11405, and 11408 have expired. 11399 and 11406 are expected to expire very soon, their battery voltages are past the "tipping point". 11374, 11375, and 11376 seem okay for now in terms of battery voltages, but they may be close to the tipping point. Most recent days that downloaded data for each float: 11374 ~ 12.17.2025, 11375 ~ 12.19.2025, 11376 ~ 12.17.2025, 11397 ~ 11.28.2025, 11399 ~ 12.19.2025, 11405 ~ 12.14.2025, 11406 ~ 12.16.2025, 11408 ~ 12.7.2025.

Commands chosen: 11376, 11397, 11405, and 11408 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11408 changed from the deep dive to the deep shallow.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

18 December 2025

Notes: 11397 and 11408 have very likely expired. 11405 missed its last expected call-in and may have expired.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11376, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed back from the shallow dive to the deep dive.

17 December 2025

Notes: 11397 and 11408 have very likely expired.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374 and 11376. Both 11374 and 11376 posted good dive start and dive end GPS pings. 11374 is East of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be in a favorable very slight Westward flow. 11375 is believed to be East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is West of the 9º x 9º domain and just drifted slightly Eastward. 11397 has very likely expired. 11399 is West of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be in an unfavorable Westward flow. 11405 is Southeast of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be in a favorable flow to drift Northwest toward the box, but just for the time being because the Southeastern gyre is predicted to deform in a way that is unfavorable to 11405 where it is now. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be in an unfavorable Westward flow; it is not as far West as 11399. 11408 has very likely expired.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11376, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11375, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11374 changed from the deep dive to the shallow dive. 11374 just surfaced and its command just changed, so it was not able to execute this updated command on its next dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC.

16 December 2025

Notes: 11397 and 11408 have very likely expired.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375, 11399, and 11406. 11375 posted a good dive start and a bad dive end GPS ping before posting 3 good beacons. 11399 posted a good dive start, good dive end, and 3 good beacon GPS pings. 11406 posted a good dive start, a good dive end, and 2 good beacon GPS pings. 11374 is believed to be East of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be in an unfavorable Eastward flow. 11375 is believed to be East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is West of the 9º x 9º domain. 11397 has very likely expired. 11399 is West of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be in an unfavorable Westward flow. 11405 is Southeast of the 3º x 3º box and is appears to be in a favorable flow to drift Northwest toward the box. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be in an unfavorable Westward flow; it is not as far West as 11399. 11408 has very likely expired.

Commands chosen: 11376, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11375 changed from the shallow dive to the deep dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

15 December 2025

Notes: 11397 has likely expired. 11408 might have expired.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change in command choice from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

14 December 2025

Notes: Today had another interesting ESN forecast where there appeared to be an overall trend of increasing SLA. 11397 has likely expired. 11408 might have expired.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11376 and 11405. 11376 and 11405 posted good dive start and dive end GPS pings. 11405 also posted 3 good beacon pings after the dive end ping. 11376 is drifting South and West away from the 9º x 9º domain (it is outside the 9º x 9º domain). 11405 is drifting closer toward the 3º x 3º box; it is Southeast of the box and has been drifting Westward and slightly Northward.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from the deep dive to the shallow dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 16:00 and 18:00 UTC.

13 December 2025

Notes: The removal of 11397 has been delayed. Tentative operational decision: do not remove floats that are expected to be expired from the optimization because (1) we do not receive confirmation when a float expires which makes operational consistency difficult, (2) it is consistent to leave all floats in the optimization, and (3) floats that have not posted GPS pings recently are likely only affecting the optimization minimally. There is an interesting ESN flow forecast for today. The recent altimeter data shows much variability; the last day of available data shows a general increase in SLA; the resulting ESN forecast extends this trend in perhaps an exaggerated fashion; this could be a solid illustration of the memory of the ESN and the impact of recent data on the forecast.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374. 11374 added a good dive start and a bad dive end GPS ping. This should mean that FloatCast essentially perceived the floats to all be in the same locations as the previous day, because the new data for 11374 should have been flagged.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change in command choice from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

12 December 2025

Notes: Today had a highly interesting ESN forecast flow prediction; FloatCast predicted that the large Southeastern anticyclonic eddy will have a small circular anticyclonic eddy "break off" and move Westward across the Southern part of the 3º x 3º box. 11397 is scheduled to be removed from the optimization on 12.13.2025 because it has 14 days since its last communication.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375, 11399, and 11406. Each of these three floats posted good dive start and dive end GPS pings. 11375 posted no beacon GPS pings; 11399 posted 2 beacon GPS pings after its last dive end; 11406 posted 3 beacon GPS pings after its last dive end. No floats are inside the 3º x 3º box. 11375 and 11376 are outside of the 9º x 9º domain. 11374 is East of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be near/in a small, weak, cyclonic eddy. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is slightly West of the 9º x 9º domain. 11397 has likely expired and is scheduled to be removed from the optimization on 12.13.2025; its last known position is South of the 3º x 3º box (near approximately 18º N, 130º E). 11399 is due West of the 3º x 3º box and is nearing the boundary of the 9º x 9º domain; it appears that it may be trapped in a Westward flow. 11405 is still to the Southeast of the 3º x 3º box; the large anticyclonic eddy that it had been taking advantage of is predicted to break apart and it is unknown how this will affect its trajectory. 11406 is close to 11399 and likewise appears to potentially trapped in a Westward flow. 11408 is Northwest of the 3º x 3º box; in time, it looks like there is potential for an anticyclonic eddy to develop that could be advantageous to bring 11408 closer to the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11375 changed from the deep dive to the shallow dive. Refer to status above; it appears that FloatCast can only perceive 11405 as the only float in an advantageous flow (11375 is well outside of the 9º x 9º domain; 11397 has likely expired).

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

11 December 2025

Notes: May remove 11397 from the optimization soon.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change in command choice from previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

10 December 2025

Notes: 11405 performed extra dives that were unexpected, but it appears that it is still operating properly otherwise.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11376 and 11405. 11376 posted bad dive start and dive end pings, but some of the later beacons were acceptable; it appears to still be West of the 9º x 9º domain. 11405 posted a typical dive start and dive end ping, and about 4 hours of beacon pings after that. After this, 11405 did two 3-hour dives; this was not intended, but the GPS pings look good from these short dives. 11405 is moving closer to the Southeastern corner of the 3º x 3º box.

9 December 2025

Notes: Mapping error performance scores are getting quite low because FloatCast perceives that no floats are in the 3º x 3º box.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374 and 11406. 11374 posted a good dive start and dive end ping with additional beacons after. 11406 appears to have done a BISTDive or two (which were sorted at the top of the data file) as well as a diagnostic dive. In addition, 11406 posted a good dive start and dive end with about 40 beacon pings after (it was doing beacon pings from about 05:00 to 09:30 UTC on 12.8.2025). 11374 is now East of the 3º x 3º box. 11406 is drifting to the Southwest from its position to the West of the 3º x 3º box. FloatCast now perceives that there are zero floats in the 3º x 3º box (this makes mapping error performance scores quite low). 11375 and 11376 are still perceived as being outside the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change in command choice from previous day. As 11405 moves along the anticyclonic Southeastern eddy, it might reach a point where it is dragged Southward by what appears to be a cyclonic eddy; it might also stay inside the larger anticyclonic Southeastern eddy and get pushed Northward. It remains to be seen.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

8 December 2025

Notes: It is likely that 11397 has expired. Due to the current system configuration, mapping error performance scores and the differences between them appear to be getting quite small. This is likely due to a lack of recent accepted data from 11374.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375 and 11399. 11375 posted a bad dive end GPS ping so FloatCast did not make full use of this information (there was also a good start ping and good beacons). 11399 posted a good dive start, dive end, and two beacon GPS pings. 11374 last posted on 12.5.2025 [data was bad]. 11375 last posted on 12.8.2025 (today) [data was bad]. 11376 last posted on 12.6.2025 [data was bad]. 11397 last posted on 11.28.2025 [data was good]. 11399 last posted on 12.8.2025 (today) [data was good]. 11405 last posted on 12.6.2025 [data was good]. 11406 last posted on 12.5.2025 [data was unexpected but okay]. 11408 last posted on 12.7.2025 [data was ok but (harshly) excluded by flagging system].

Commands chosen: 11397, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11375, 11376, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from shallow to deep dive compared to previous day. It appears that the Southeastern anticyclonic eddy might be breaking up into two smaller eddies adjacent to each other (that are both anticyclonic) and are almost making a figure-8 shape. 11405 might be able to still use these currents to move closer tot he 3º x 3º box. There appear to be some favorable flows to the Southwest and Northeast of the 3º x 3º box, but no floats are there to take advantage of this. 11375 and 11376 are the only floats perceived as being outside the 9º x 9º domain.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

7 December 2025

Notes: There was an unexpected result of the float data flagging system so that the float data for 11408 was rejected when this probably was too harsh (and it could have reasonably been accepted). See below.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11408. 11408 had a good dive start and dive end GPS ping, and then a bad beacon ping followed by a good one. It appears that this data was flagged; this is a bit harsh. Status of floats as perceived by FloatCast is the same as previous day as a consequence. I think 11408 is just a bit further south than FloatCast's perception.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11397, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change in commands chosen. Less deformation of the Southeastern anticyclonic eddy is predicted today compared to previous day.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 18:00 and 19:00 UTC.

6 December 2025

Notes: Floats giving bad GPS pings may become more problematic.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11376 and 11405. 11376 added a dive start GPS ping and then several bad GPS pings after, so FloatCast's perception of 11376 does not change based on this new data. 11405 added good quality dive start and dive end GPS pings, and its perceived location in FloatCast has been updated. Qualitatively, it moved in an expected way (westward, closer to the 3º x 3º box). It appears that 11375 and 11376 are still outside of the 9º x 9º domain of interest (for 11376, checked the good dive start GPS ping to see this). 11374 appears to be outside of the 3º x 3º box (checked most recent good GPS ping to see this, even though it did not have a high-quality dive end GPS ping). All other floats are within the 9º x 9º domain, but not inside the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11397, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11376, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11376 changed from the shallow dive to the deep dive. FloatCast still perceives 11397 and 11405 as being in good places to take advantage of the Southeastern anticyclonic eddy that has been tracked; FloatCast prediction for today shows that this eddy may deform substantially in the future though.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

5 December 2025

Notes: 11374 seems to have a persisting bug where it cannot get a good "dive end" GPS fix; the last acceptable pair of dive start/end GPS pings for 11374 was all the way back on 11.24.2025. See note below on the misplaced "diagnostic dive" for 11406.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374 and 11406. The new data for 11374 did not meet acceptable quality criteria. The new data for 11406 was just additional beacon pings, not a full dive; there was also a stray "diagnostic dive" that was slotted in out of order temporally for some reason (even though it is time stamped to 12.4.2025, it was placed in the data file near data from 11.30.2025). As a result of this data update, the only perceivable difference to FloatCast's understanding of spatial float distribution is a slight shift of 11406. Everything else is as it was yesterday.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11397, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). No change in command selection compared to previous day. Comments from previous day hold mostly unchanged, with the added clarification that the eddy near 11408 is predicted to deform on its Northern side in a slightly more unfavorable way than previous day; it appears that a deep dive for 11408 is a reasonable choice especially considering the uncertainty. Even if the eddy was slightly more favorably shaped and could eventually bring 11408 back to the 3º x 3º box after first moving it away from the box, there is uncertainty in the predicted flow; the eddy could change shape and choosing a shallow dive early could position 11408 poorly to recover after the predicted flow change.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

4 December 2025

Notes: 11408 switched back to the deep dive command. 11397 might have expired; to be determined.

Status of floats: New float data for 11375, 11399, and 11406; the data for each looks good (see caveat about 11406 below). 11374 does not have recent GPS fix that was accepted by FloatCast, but it might be right on the Eastern border of the 3º x 3º box. 11375 is far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is right on the Western border of the 9º x 9º domain. The most recent update for 11397 was 11.28.2025. If there is no new data for 11397 after 12.6.2025 (which is 11.28.2025 + 8 days), then 11397 has probably expired. 11397 was last known to be due South of the 3º x 3º box. 11399 posted two new sets of dive start and dive end data. 11399 is West of the 3º x 3º box and has recently been approximately station-keeping to resist undesirable flows. 11405 is in the Southeast corner of the 9º x 9º domain. For some reason, 11406 added two new BIST dives to the beginning of its log file in addition to the normal data it retrieved. 11406 is West of the 3º x 3º box, and appears to be station-keeping to prevent unwanted drift. 11408 is still North of the Northwest corner of the 3º x 3º box. 11375 and 11376 appear to be the only floats outside of the 9º x 9º domain. 11374 appears to be the only float inside the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11397, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11397 and 11405 might be able to take advantage of different parts of the same anticyclonic eddy in the Southeastern corner of the 9º x 9º domain to move closer to the 3º x 3º box. 11374, 11399, 11406 and 11408 appear to be guarding against unwanted drift by selecting the deep dive. 11408 is close to an anticyclonic eddy that might help it move closer to the 3º x 3º box eventually, but it would have to move away from the box first to get there. Due to the uncertainty and variability of the ocean currents, it might be the most prudent to choose a deep dive, as FloatCast did.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

3 December 2025

Notes: 11408 changed the command to use from previous day so that now it is using shallow dive. No new float data was added though, so this change appears to be dependent on the surface flow field changing.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11397, 11405, and 11408 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11399, and 11406 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11397 and 11405 might be able to take advantage of different parts of the same anticyclonic eddy in the Southeastern corner of the 9º x 9º domain to move closer to the 3º x 3º box. 11374 is near the edge of the 3º x 3º box; perhaps the choice of deep dive command is to keep it from leaving the box. 11399 and 11406 choice of deep dive command seems to be guarding against Westward currents (11399 and 11406 are to the West of the 3º x 3º box). 11408 appears to be caught in a predicted favorable anticyclonic eddy so that it can move closer to the 3º x 3º box.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

2 December 2025

Notes: Does our model for float trajectory predictions work best near strong surface currents?

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11376, 11405, and 11408; the GPS data looks good for each of these except for 11374. 11374 does not have a recent dive start and dive end pairing of GPS fixes that were accepted. 11376 was pushed Westward out of the 9º x 9º domain. 11405 is sweeping Westward from the Southeastern corner of the 9º x 9º domain; it appears that 11405 might be able to latch on to the Westward flow from the anticyclonic eddy in the Southeastern corner of the 9º x 9º domain and move closer to the 3º x 3º box. 11408 differed from its previous prevailing movement direction in its last dive, moving more Westward (and a little South) instead of Northwestward. 11374 is the only float that appears to be in the 3º x 3º box. 11375 and 11376 are the only floats outside of the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). Though the recent trajectory of 11408 has improved, it still needs to continue to guard against unwanted drift; it is North of the Northwest corner of the 3º x 3º box.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

1 December 2025

Notes: Full update included below.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11406; it has good GPS fixes. 11374 is the only float inside the 3º x 3º box. It is in the Eastern part of the box toward the middle. 11375 is outside of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 has recently re-entered the 9º x 9º domain from the West. 11397 is due South of the 3º x 3º box. 11399 is due East of the 3º x 3º box. 11405 has recently re-entered the 9º x 9º domain in the Southeast. 11406 is due West of the 3º x 3º box and is still drifting Westward away from it. 11408 is North of the 3º x 3º box and is still drifting Northwestward away from it. 11374 is the only float in the 3º x 3º box. 11375 is the only float fully outside of the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: 11375, 11376, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11374, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). It appears that 11374 needs to go deeper now to guard against flow pushing it out of the box. It appears that 11397 might be able to take advantage of the predicted anti-cyclonic eddy in the lower right corner of the 9º x 9º domain to move Northward closer to the 3º x 3º box. It appears that 11399 is in an awkward location West of the 3º x 3º box and cannot take advantage of any flow to get substantially closer. 11406 appears to be in danger of getting swept away Westward. 11408 might get caught in an anticyclonic eddy soon and get pushed Eastward.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

30 November 2025

Notes: 11397 appears to be on an especially good trajectory to move closer to the 3º x 3º box (see below).

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375 and 11399 (data looks good for each). 11375 is outside of the 9º x 9º domain (to the East). 11405 came back inside the 9º x 9º domain from the East side toward the South. 11374 is the only float inside the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, 11397 and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). It appears that 11374 may be able to spread out its samples more and stay close to the 3º x 3º box. It appears 11397 might be able to take advantage of the predicted flows to move Northward closer to the 3º x 3º box.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

29 November 2025

Notes: 11376 and 11405 recently re-entered the 9º x 9º domain.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11405 and 11408 (data looks good for each). 11375 is outside of the 9º x 9º domain (to the East). 11405 came back inside the 9º x 9º domain from the East side toward the South. 11374 is the only float inside the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11397, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). It appears 11374 might be able to take advantage of the predicted flows to maintain its status of being inside the 3º x 3º box. There are three predicted anticyclonic eddies that due to their boundaries make the a flow that might be in a good direction for 11374.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC.

28 November 2025

Notes: 11376 re-entered the 9º x 9º domain. It needs to proceed further in the same direction for there to be better float predictions.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11374, 11376, and 11397. 11374 update included a dive start and a dive end GPS fix, but the dive end was a bad fix. 11376 update data looks good. 11397 update data looks good. 11374 is the only float inside the 3º x 3º box. 11375 and 11405 are outside of the 9º x 9º domain (to the East). 11376 came back inside the 9º x 9º domain from the West side.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11376, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11397, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). It appears 11374 might be able to take advantage of the predicted cyclonic eddy to maintain its position inside the 3º x 3º box.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 16:00 and 18:00 UTC.

27 November 2025

Notes: FloatCast is officially live, starting today. Now, commands are being published for all 8 floats remaining (11374, 11375, 11376, 11397, 11399, 11405, 11406, 11408). See notes below.

Status of floats: New float data added for 11375, 11399, and 11406. 11375 update data looks good. 11399 updated with a dive start GPS fix, and two dive end GPS fixes, so it appears that the dive start for the second dive is missing. 11406 update data looks good. 11374 is the only float inside the 3º x 3º box. 11375, 11376, and 11405 are outside of the 9º x 9º domain, but 11376 and 11405 appear to be close to returning.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11405 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). 11376, 11397, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). It appears 11374 might be able to take advantage of the predicted cyclonic eddy to maintain its position inside the 3º x 3º box.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 20:00 UTC.

26 November 2025

Notes: Two floats chose the shallow dive today (floats have more commonly been choosing the deeper dive). See today's notes on commands chosen below.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11397 and 11399 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters). It appears that 11397 might be able to take advantage of the anticyclonic eddy in the lower right corner of the 9º x 9º region to move closer North to the 3º x 3º box. It appears that 11399 might be able to take advantage of the small cyclonic eddy to the East of the 3º x 3º box and move closer to the box; the catch is that there has not been a good GPS fix recently for 11399, and it might not actually be close to where we think it is.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 15:00 and 16:00 UTC.

25 November 2025

Notes: FloatCast predicts that the cyclonic eddy in the middle of the box will dissipate in strength. The relatively larger anticyclonic (high pressure) eddy in the lower right of the 9º x 9º domain is persisting. It looks like 11397 might be able to take advantage of this eddy.

Status of floats: 11374 is still the only float in the 3º x 3º box. New float data available for 11376, 11405, 11406, and 11408. These GPS fixes look good except for 11376 which has a recent low-quality fix. 11405 is outside of the 9º x 9º domain but appears to be drifting back toward the bottom right corner of it. 11406 (West of the 3º x 3º box) is continuing its slow drift in the Northwest direction. 11408 (North of the 3º x 3º box) is continuing its slow drift in the Northwest direction as well.

Commands chosen: Floats 11374, 11375, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dive (1500 meters). 11397 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters); it appears that 11397 might be able to take advantage of the anticyclonic eddy in the lower right corner of the 9º x 9º region to move closer North to the 3º x 3º box.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 15:00 and 17:00 UTC.

24 November 2025

Notes: It looks like a cyclonic (low pressure) eddy might be spinning up in the 3º x 3º box. This might be helpful to the control effort.

Status of floats: New float data for 11374 and 11397. All GPS fixes from these look good. The position change for 11374 is quite large -- this might be because it recently had a bad GPS fix (in a previous batch of data). 11374 is still in the 3º x 3º box, but it has moved from bottom-middle to middle-right. It looks like it is right on the edge of getting caught up in the cyclonic eddy and turning in toward the box, and from "missing" the eddy and continuing out of the box to the East. Prediction: it will move East out of the box. 11375 is far off to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is to the West of the 9º x 9º domain, but may return to the 9º x 9º domain soon. 11397 is South of the 3º x 3º box and is within the 9º x 9º domain, and appears to be on track to move Northward directly into the 3º x 3º box. 11399 appears to be station-keeping to the West of the 3º x 3º box, but is within the 9º x 9º domain. 11405, is just East of the 9º x 9º domain, and appears to be station-keeping. 11406 slowly drifting West of the 3º x 3º box; it is about 1º to the West of it. 11408 is North of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be drifting Northward; it is within the 9º x 9º domain.

Commands chosen: Floats 11374, 11375, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dives (1500 meters). 11397 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters) as it appears to be on track to move directly into the 3º x 3º box.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

23 November 2025

Notes: Repeated process like previous day.

Status of floats: New float data for 11375 and 11406. The new data for 11375 had a bad GPS fix though. The position change for 11406 is not very large, but not insignificant.

Commands chosen: Floats 11374, 11375, 11399, 11406, and 11408 chose the deeper 4-day dives (1500 meters). 11397 chose the shallow 4-day dive (200 meters).

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast posted outputs between 18:00 and 19:00 UTC. (Note: in the past, used the language "Both runs of FloatCast occurred..." to indicate the time range that the data was posted to this website.)

22 November 2025

Notes: Repeated process like previous day.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: All floats (11374, 11397, 11399, 11406, 11408) chose the deeper 4-day dives (1500 meters) except for 11375, which chose the shallow one (200 meters).

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 13:00 and 14:00 UTC.

21 November 2025

Notes: Commands to choose from were finalized yesterday. Floats now choose between: [~4 days, 200 meters], [~4 days, 1500 meters]. These should not be changed moving forward. Today can be considered the start day for a period of investigation.

Status of floats: 6 floats called in with new data (11374, 11376, 11397, 11405, 11406, and 11408). 11374 and 11376 had some bad GPS data (format of the bad data: 0ºN 0ºE, 1 Jan 1980). 11374 is at bottom center of the 3º x 3º box. No other floats are inside the box. 11375 is far off to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. 11376 is to the West of the 9º x 9º domain, but may return to the 9º x 9º domain soon. 11397 is South of the 3º x 3º box and is within the 9º x 9º domain. 11399 appears to be station-keeping to the West of the 3º x 3º box, but is within the 9º x 9º domain. 11405, is East of the 9º x 9º domain, but is reasonably close. 11406 is close to the 3º x 3º box; it is about 1º to the West of it. 11408 is North of the 3º x 3º box and appears to be drifting Northward; it is within the 9º x 9º box.

Commands chosen: All floats chose the deeper 4-day dives (1500 meters) except for 11375, which chose the shallow one (200 meters).

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

20 November 2025

Notes: For today, the commands fed into the optimization were changed. Floats chose between: [~4 days, 325 meters], [~4 days, 1000 meters]. The next float call-in is expected to be around 15:43 UTC on 20 November 2025; we will know for sure if the command pipeline is debugged around then. If it works, then FloatCast will have officially become operational. For today, reset the command seed file; up until now, floats have been following the typical 4-day dive pattern (with the exception of 11406 -- see 11.19.2025 notes). The command seed file was reset for today and all floats used a park depth of 1000 meters; 11406 used a park duration of ~2 days, and all other floats used a park duration of ~4 days.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: All floats chose the deeper 4-day dives except for 11375. Repeat comment from previous day theorizing why 11375 is using the shallow dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 12:00 and 14:00 UTC.

19 November 2025

Notes: 11406 called in shortly after midnight (UTC) and received a FloatCast command. However, it used the wrong command file (not the most recent one). This hopefully has been updated. The next float call-in is expected to be around 15:43 UTC on 20 November 2025; we will know for sure if the command pipeline is debugged around then. If it works, then FloatCast will have officially become operational.

Status of floats: 11375, 11399, and 11406 recently posted new dive data. 11375 is drifting far to the East of the 9º x 9º domain. It is around 136.849ºE, and the Eastern boundary is 135ºE. 11375 appears to be drifting farther to the East presently. 11399 is toward the West of the 3º x 3º box; it appears to be in a region with weak currents and is effectively station-keeping. 11406 is to the West of the 3º x 3º box, and is drifting Westward and a little bit Northward. 11374 is the only float in the box; it is in the bottom middle of the box. 11376 is still to the West of the 9º x 9º domain, but appears to be coming back Eastward. 11397 seems to be moving Southward away from the 3º x 3º box. 11405 is to the East of the 9º x 9º domain and does not appear to be drifting back. 11408 seems to be moving Northward away from the box.

Commands chosen: All floats chose the deeper 2-day dives except for 11375. Perhaps the mapping error score for the control set that had 11375 using the shallow and deep 2-day dives are identical, which would mean the shallow dive for 11375 was chosen due to index order?

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

18 November 2025

Notes: Will verify when FloatCast is officially operational.

Status of floats: No new float data added. Status is same as previous day.

Commands chosen: 11374 and 11399 selected the shallow 2-day dive; all others selected the deeper 2-day dive. 11374 is inside the 3º x 3º box; perhaps the shallow 2-day dive was selected to encourage it to spread out in the domain. 11399 seems to be stuck in a general region; perhaps the shallow 2-day dive is to break it out of whatever oceanographic feature may be constraining it.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 14:00 and 15:00 UTC.

17 November 2025

Notes: Will verify when FloatCast is officially operational.

Status of floats: 11376, 11397, 11405, and 11408 recently posted new dive data. 11405 returned to the surface after a long dive and then did two short ~3-hr dives. It seems that something like this has happened for this float recently too. 11375, 11376, and 11405 are still out of the 9º x 9º domain. 11374 is moving further inside the bottom center of the box. It appears that 11399 is station-keeping. 11408 seems to be moving Northward away from the box. 11397 seems to be moving Southward away from the box. 11376 to the West and 11405 to the East seem to be moving back toward the 9º x 9º domain of interest.

Commands chosen: 11399 selected the shallow 2-day dive, and seems to be moving toward the 3º x 3º box; all others selected the deeper 2-day dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

16 November 2025

Notes: Will verify when FloatCast is officially operational.

Status of floats: 11374 had new dive data today. Expecting 11397 and 11408 to call in today. 11375, 11376, and 11405 are still out of the 9º x 9º domain. 11374 is moving further inside the bottom center of the box. It appears that 11399 is station-keeping. 11408 seems to be moving Northward away from the box. 11397 seems to be moving Southward away from the box.

Commands chosen: 11375 and 11399 selected the shallow 2-day dive; all others selected the deeper 2-day dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 18:00 and 19:00 UTC.

15 November 2025

Notes: 11375 surfaced yesterday, but something in the pipeline failed so that it did not follow the FloatCast command. In the FloatCast system, there is not a graceful way to flag a command as not being accepted; so FloatCast assumes that it is following the posted command. (This could be fixed in the future.) 11406 should have called in recently; to be determined on whether it accepted the command.

Status of floats: All 8 floats are active. 11375 finally gave an accepted dive cycle data point. 11374 is inside the 3º x 3º box of interest (bottom center). 11375, 11376, and 11405 are outside the 9º x 9º region of interest.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11375, and 11399 selected the shallow 2-day dive and all others selected the deeper 2-day dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC.

14 November 2025 -- Round 2

Notes: This mission log entry is for the second set of FloatCast runs on the day. The experimental float data had stopped updating, but this has been fixed, and a second round of FloatCast was executed.

Status of floats: 11374, 11397, 11399, 11405, 11406, and 11408 have surface data after 10 November 2025. 11375 does not have accepted data after 4 November, but it appears to still be active. 11376 has data after 7 November 2025. 11374 is inside the 3º x 3º box of interest (bottom center). 11406 recently traversed the 3º box, but is not in it now (it is just West of it). 11376 and 11405 are outside the 9º x 9º region of interest, but may be turning to come back inside.

Commands chosen: Still, 11374 and 11399 selected the shallow 2-day dive and all others selected the deeper 2-day dive; even with the new float data available.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 19:00 and 20:00 UTC.

14 November 2025 -- Round 1

Notes: FloatCast was activated on 13 November 2025 at 20:42:00 UTC. 11404 likely has depleted batteries, and so it was removed from control plan. May update this mission log for today after a second set of FloatCast runs later today.

Status of floats: No new data added.

Commands chosen: Again, 11374 and 11399 selected the shallow 2-day dive. All others selected the deeper 2-day dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

13 November 2025

Notes: Activation of FloatCast has been delayed. Normal use of FloatCast and updates to this website will proceed as usual.

Status of floats: No new data added.

Commands chosen: 11374 and 11399 selected the shallow 2-day dive. All others selected the deeper 2-day dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 14:00 and 17:00 UTC.

12 November 2025

Notes: Live use of FloatCast begins today. FloatCast first generated prediction outputs for the reference 1,000 meter park depth, approximate 4-day dive duration, and 2,000 meter deep dive depth. These commands were not uploaded to the "latest float commands" page for active use; they are just included as a reference. FloatCast then generated a new set of predictions and determined the optimal set of commands according to our mapping error scoring metric. Candidate commands considered: [~4 days, 200 meters], [~2 days, 325 meters], [~2 days, 1000 meters], [~4 days, 1500 meters].

Status of floats: 11375, and 11404 do not have accepted surface data after 4 November 2025. 11374, 11376, 11397, 11405, 11406, and 11408 have more recent accepted surface data since 7 November 2025. 11376 and 11405 are out of our 9º x 9º domain of interest and are not controlled here. 11374, 11375, 11404, 11406, and 11408 are especially close to the 3º x 3º box of interest. 11374 is the only one inside the 3º x 3º box.

Commands chosen: 11374, 11397, and 11399, selected the shallow 2-day dive. 11404, 11406, and 11408 selected the deeper 2-day dive. 11375 selected the deep 4-day dive.

Timing: Both runs of FloatCast occurred between 14:00 and 17:00 UTC.

Addendum: FloatCast control not activated on 12 November due to a delay.
